French foreign minister urges Japan to open up rail sector

Japan still has work to do on freeing up trade with the European Union, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told press.
Fabius cited non-tariff barriers and access to public-sector contracts as areas where progress is needed. French companies “place particular importance” on doing business with the Japanese railway industry, he said.
During his stay in Japan, he discussed about the ongoing negotiations on an EU-Japan economic partnership agreement that both sides hope to conclude next year.
In the rail sector, the EU wants Tokyo to ensure that European suppliers can compete for Japanese procurement contracts on a level playing field with local rivals.
