Forrestfield station takes shape

The future Forrestfield station is taking shape, with considerable progress made at the construction site along Dundas Road, in Perth.
Both platform foundation walls have been completed, as have the escalator and lift pit walls. Backfilling has commenced while hydraulic services installation is being finalised. At concourse level, five of seven separate concrete pours have been completed for the station’s 130m-long concourse slab. The slab is expected to be finalised by the end of March, by which time a total of 300 cubic metres of concrete will have been poured. Installation of steel, to form the station roof, will commence shortly.
South of the station, brickwork has been completed on the stowage building where trains will be stored and maintained when not in use. Pre-cast concrete piers, which create the stowage platform, are currently being installed. At the northern end of the site work on the portal building is progressing well with plans to start installation of building services in the next few weeks. Casting of the main slab for the portal building will follow along with construction of lift and stair shafts. The portal building houses the controls to operate and maintain the tunnels.
Passengers will enter Forrestfield station at an elevated concourse level, before passing through the SmartRider fare gates and travelling down to platform level to meet the train. To date, five of seven separate concrete pours have been completed for the station’s 130m-long concourse slab. The slab is expected to be completed by the end of March and requires a total of 300 cubic metres of concrete.
In addition, stations’ stairs, escalators and lifts pits have been installed and works continue for construction of the lift shafts. The base and walls for the northern escalator are complete and final installation of the lifts and escalators is scheduled for completion in May. Construction of the stairs will follow later this year.
In February, construction works continue across nine sites. The both TBMs began their ascent towards Redcliffe Station. Although both TBMs stopped after workers operating TBM Grace reported a potential mechanical issue just short of reaching the 4km mark, this month the TBMs will continue their underground journey.
The USD 1.3 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link, part of Metronet strategy, will offer railway connection between Perth and city’s airport. In April 2016 the Public Transport Authority awarded Salini Impregilo – NRW Joint Venture a USD 836.5 million contract for the design, construction and maintenance of Forrestfield rail link.
The project will be completed in 2021.
