Five stations are planned for the first phase of the Oman Railway Network that is about to be constructed. There will be two commuter railway stations and three inter city stations built along the first, 207km network that will include a section of the GCC Railway Network, writes menarailnews.com.
The line will link Oman’s border with the UAE at Buraimi with the port of Sohar. There will be two commuter stations at Zurub and Al Wasit which will have a capacity of up to 100 passengers per hour while the intercity / international stations at Sohar, Hafeet and Buraimi will have a capacity of up to 300 people per hour.
The tendering process is under way for the new lines, with the deadline for submission next month. The eighteen prequalified groups of companies going for the Design and Build contract will have to build the five stations in question, as well as bridges, viaducts and all the major engineering work involved in the line’s construction.
