First Coradia Max for Baden-Württemberg rolls out of factory

Alstom is fulfilling an order to supply 130 Coradia Max high-capacity electric regional trains to a Baden-Württemberg-based customer. This is the largest order for double-deck trains being realised at the Chorzow plant. In addition to double-deck trains for Baden-Württemberg, the Silesian plant manufactures components for trains of the same type for two other customers in Germany.

The four-car Coradia Max regional trains consist of two double-deck cars and two single-deck centre cars. In total, they accommodate 380 seats. Their full-scale production takes place at Alstom’s Chorzow facility, which is part of Alstom’s global competence centre for manufacturing and engineering. At the beginning of November 2024, the first trainset left the Chorzów site for Germany, where it will undergo testing before returning to Chorzów for the next stage of work, including interior fitting.

“The Chorzów site is one of the largest and most modern factories in the Alstom group. We carry out complex contracts requiring specialised expertise and continuous innovation. The order for double-deck trains for Baden-Württemberg is the first double-deck train project realised from start to finish at our plant. Like all Alstom deliveries, it is a custom-built project – with comfortable first class on the upper deck and numerous solutions to enhance passenger comfort, including for passengers with reduced mobility. At our site, we also produce modern trains for the Netherlands and Italy, among others. Every year with our projects, we contribute to green and sustainable mobility worldwide,” stresses Beata Rusinowicz, Managing Director of Alstom in Poland.

Coradia Max is a state-of-the-art low-floor, high-performance electric multiple unit (EMU) with a top speed of up to 200km/h, offering a modular design that allows operators to choose the optimal configuration and interior. The trains have been designed with passenger comfort in mind, providing, among other things, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, multiple charging options for mobile phones and laptops, reading lights, multi-purpose spaces for large luggage, prams and bicycles, as well as a range of facilities for people with reduced mobility. More than 500 Coradia Max have been ordered across Europe.
