The Finnish government decided to set up a separate company, Oy Suomen Rata AB, to develop the railway industry in its entirety. “RB Rail AS, the joint venture of Rail Baltica project, will become one of the areas of our activity. Finland will become the official participant of the Rail Baltic joint venture,” said Kadri Simson, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure.
According to the decision of the Finnish government, Oy Suomen Rata AB, which has five subsidiaries with different business lines, will be set up for the complete development of the railway sector and Finland will become a shareholder of the joint venture RB Rail AS.
The Finnish government estimates that Rail Baltica will be a new channel for the main markets of Finnish transit. In addition, the participation in the establishment of Rail Baltica, contributes to the development of the rail core network from Helsinki to the north, the Government says.
The Transport Ministers of the three Baltic States submitted an official invitation to Finland to join the Rail Baltica joint venture at the end of last year.
