The European Rail Freight Association (ERFA) has established the Alliance of Rail New Entrants (ALLRAIL), a new rail association in Europe that brings together non-incumbent companies from freight and passenger rail markets.
The association will focus on pursuing fully opened rail markets in all EU Member States, non-discriminatory access and financing for rail rolling stock, competitive track access charges and an open data approach to rail, also on ticketing.
Erich Forster, CEO of WESTbahn has been elected President of ALLRAIL and Tony Berkeley, ERFA Director, as the Vice-President. Peter Koehler, CEO of LEO Express, and Nick Brooks have also been elected as ALLRAIL Board Directors.
ALLRAIL is expected to create a strong alliance between freight and passenger rail companies, which are committed to fair competition and open markets. All members of this association are keen to invest in rail services and set up new routes across Europe.
The association said that the sector must remove market access barriers to infrastructure such as rail tracks, infrastructure fees and rail-related facilities. It also supports the formation of a regulatory framework to avoid discrimination in the railway sector.
ALLRAIL is set to grow its membership base and unite all non-incumbent rail companies over the coming months, and intends to work with EU institutions and the European Union Rail Agency to establish a competitive Single European Railway Area.
