EU funds to improve the Germany-Poland link

The European Commission has allocated around EUR 22 Million to support the development of the railway between Hoyerswerda, to the north of Dresden (Germany) and the country’s border with Poland. The German minister of transport, Alexander Dobrindt, explained that the expansion scheme includes the construction of a second track, electrification and the installation of modern control and safety technology.
The route is part of the Trans-European transport network that connects the North Sea ports of Bremen, Hamburg and Rotterdam with southern Poland. The upgrade, including electrification is expected to be finished by autumn 2017. Germany’s federal government is investing about EUR 420 Million in the project.
