Mr. Shewangizaw Kifle Mulugeta, the Chief of the Infrastructure Asset Management Department from Ethiopian Railways Corporation is the latest addition to the highly anticipated African Rail Evolution summit. The forum is geared toward an African audience, with the goal of accessibility to trade corridors and to enhancing cross border trade among African countries and connecting the continent through a rail system, that is reliable, efficient and safe.
Mr. Mulugeta will be covering a case study on the development of the standard gauge electrified railway network in Ethiopia and the innovative financing methods used for the projects. He has vast experience accomplishing different business development, monitoring and evaluation and programme management initiatives in transport and energy projects. Mr. Mulugeta has experience in HSE policy and strategy implementation in railway construction projects and operation; specifically in infrastructure asset management and planning, training and monitoring. He was also a national delegate on climate change negotiations for bilateral negotiations on regional transport interconnectivity between Ethiopia – Djibouti, Ethiopia – Kenya and Ethiopia – South Sudan.
The Ethiopian government has undertaken to implement several mega projects during 2014/2015 and part of this is to construct an estimate of 2000 km of standard gauge railway infrastructure. The Ethiopian Railways Corporation has identified eight railway corridors and they are aiming to lay an estimate of 5060 km of rail.
