Estonia is planning to apply for funding from the Connecting Europe Facility for extending the tram line to Tallinn Airport, which is necessary for connecting Rail Baltic to the public transport. The deadline for submitting the financing request to the European Commission is 26 February. The decision about allocating the funds will be made in the autumn.
Local an national authorities
National and city government are partnering up to make Tallinn one of the few regional capitals where all major ports and terminals are connected by tram. According to local media, in October, the Cabinet approved the operational program for transport up to 2017, under which it will approach the EU Cohesion Fund for funding for the extensions. In one project estimated at costing EUR 20 million, the section would be built on the Ülemiste tram line to serve the airport. The goal is to complete those projects by 2018.
