The European Investment Bank has under appraisal the co-finance transport investments under the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2014-2020 in Romania.
The total cost of the project is EUR 6.8 billion, of which the proposed EIB finance is EUR 1 billion.
The project is a structural programme loan for Romania covering the transport components of the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (LIOP) 2014-2020.
Last year, the European Commission has adopted the LIOP for Romania, which is an important investment package worth nearly EUR 9.5 billion from the EU Regional Funds to be invested in transport, environment and energy projects. This is almost half of the EUR 23 billion allocated to Romania under EU Cohesion Policy. With national co-financing included, it will be worth more than EUR 11.8 billion to stimulate growth and create jobs in the country.
