The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing up to EUR 815 Million for motorways, the Thessaloniki metro and an improved electricity transmission network in Greece. EUR 200 Million will be allocated to Thessaloniki Metro. The amount will be directed to extending the metro network in Kalamaria area.
Thessaloniki Metro represents an important point of the Hellenic authorities’ strategy of providing an efficient public transport system in Thessaloniki, at the same time with extending Athens’ metro network.
The project has been supported by the Greek Government, the EU and the EIB. EIB has already financed the development of the metro network in this city with loans amounting to EUR 650 Million.
