The European for Reconstruction and Development will provide Societe des Transports de Tunis (TRANSTU) a EUR 100 million loan for urban rail fleet renewal programme. The total value of the project is EUR 240.2 million.
The loan is split into three tranches of which the first tranche will finance the acquisition of new suburban trains for the historic rail line linking the centre of Tunis with the northern suburb of La Marsa, the second one will support the construction of a tramway maintenance depot in Manouba and the third one will be allotted to the refurbishment of existing tramway cars or for the acquisition of new ones.
In addition, the bank’s engagement will support TRANSTU in adopting and implementing measures to improve its internal controls, compliance and other aspects of its corporate governance through the development and the implementation of a Corporate Governance Action Plan.
