Flemish public transport company De Lijn, in Belgium, has begun initial Trambus test runs on a future route which will commence in 2019.
The Trambus test programme will commence on a planned route from Jette to Brussels Airport via Vilvoorde. The trail will determine what changes are needed to existing infrastructure in order for the new vehicle to run safely and smoothly. Belgian Minister for Mobility Ben Weyts, has confirmed the mode will be in operation from 2019.
“The laying of tram tracks takes time and money. The Trambus allows us to offer a much faster alternative to the car and the traffic jam. The Trambus is the ideal stepping stone for a real tram,” said Minister Weyts.
Thus, the deployment of trambuses in Flanders is concretely prepared.
