De Lijn operated tram networks total approximately 175 km and are located in the cities of Antwerp, Ghent and along the Belgian coast. The new trams will operate across three networks. Public transport operator De Lijn has selected rolling stock manufacturer CAF to supply 146 new trams which will be produced in seven consecutive call-offs. CAF is to supply the low-floor trams for the provinces of East and West Flanders and Antwerp.
According to CAF, it will deliver 146 low-floor trams – both uni-directional and bi-directional – and combine modern aesthetics with state-of-the-art equipment. The trams will provide maximum accessibility without compromising comfort, performance and ease of operation.
The De Lijn order follows a contract awarded by MIVB/STIB of Brussels to CAF for the construction of its 43 new metro vehicles. Furthermore, GVB of Amsterdam awarded CAF with a contract for 63 new trams.
