Under a CZK 239 million (EUR 9.19 million) contract, Czech Railways ordered 12 locomotives from CZ Loko that should be delivered by February 2019. They will replace the older unreliable locomotives that are much higher fuel consumption and maintenance costs than the new vehicles.
“Modern shunting locomotives are not only environmentally friendly and much less covering the railway station’s neighborhood with dust and greenhouse gas emissions but their operation is also more economical. They are lighter, they have less fuel consumption, longer service maintenance periods and thus ensure better cost-effective management of those stations where the trains are parked, than the older locomotives to be replaced“, says Miroslav Kupec, Member of the ČD Board of Directors responsible for technology, service and property, who enumerates the benefits of the new equipment.
The new locomotives, also known under the trademark EffiShunter 300 (794 series), will replace more than twenty-year old locomotives of the 714 series, which were created in the mid-1990s by modernizing even older locomotives from the 1970s.Czech Railways is going to use them for a shunting in large passenger railway junctions, where there is a frequent shunting with long-distance and regional trains. They will be distributed to Bohumín, Olomouc, Hradec Králové, Pilsen, Brno and to the Prague railway junction.
The two-axle (Bo) diesel – electric locomotive is designed for a maximum speed of 60 km/h and with a power of the combustion engine CAT C13 328 kW. The weight of the locomotive is 36 tons, which in combination with diesel – electric AC – DC transmission optimally uses adhesion and the locomotive thus reaches a maximum tractive force of 124 kN. The vehicles are also equipped with digital control system, online diagnostics, multiple control system and, last but not least, slip-resistant protection.
