CRRC unveils Nigerian new locomotive fleet

CRRC Qishuyan has unveiled the first diesel-electric passenger locomotive and the first diesel trains for Nigeria, during a visit of Nigerian Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, at CRRC factory in China, on 17 October.
The new locomotives will enter transport services on the 187- km Abuja-Kaduna line, inaugurated in 2016, and on the new 156-km Lagos-Ibadan line, which is expected to be opened in 2020.
“The first batch of new trains built for us by CRRC – two diesel trains and four locomotives. I have taken delivery and they would soon be in Nigeria. Work is ongoing on the 2nd batch of trains. The plan is to connect and unite the entire country by rail
At the beginning of this year, China Civil Engineering Construction Corp awarded CRRC Qishuyan a contract for the supply of 21 diesel locomotives and multiple units to Nigeria. The first ten locomotives will be sent this month to Nigeria from Shanghai. Under the contract, CRRC Qishuyan will deliver 4 diesel trains, 6 passenger locomotives, 9 freight locomotives and 2 shunting locomotives.
