Croatia receives EU financing for rail project

hz-infrastrukturaCroatia’s rail infrastructure manager HŽ Infrastruktura and European Commission have signed an agreement on the financing of the reconstruction of existing track and construction of a second track on the Krizevci – Hungarian border line. The section is part of the Mediterranean Corridor, between Zagreb and the Hungarian border. Krizevci is located about 65 kilometres northeast of Zagreb.
The total value of the project is EUR 300 million, of which, EU will allot EUR 241 million covering 85% of the total cost.
In July, HŽ Infrastruktura began reconstruction works on Dugo Selo – Krizevci section, with total costs of EUR 200 million. In addition, the company intends to reconstruct a line between Križevci and Koprivnica to the state border, a project estimated at EUR 300 million. This project includes the reconstruction of the existing track and the construction of the second track that will follow the existing one, except the subsection between Carevdar and Lepavina, where the line will have a 4.3 km branch. The work will include the construction and reconstruction of 4 stations, of 11 level crossings and the removal of other level crossings. The bridge over the Drava river will be removed and instead will be construction a new one.
All these projects will increase the infrastructure capacity, will allow trains tu run at speeds of 160 km/h and will cut the journey times.
