Attiko Metro and a Hill International-led consortium signed a EUR 18.92 million contract to deliver technical consulting services for the first section of Athens Metro Line 4 as well as for the future expansion projects.
The consortium comprises Hill International, Nama Consulting Engineers and Planners and Concept Consulting Engineers will deliver the services within the next 60 months (5 years) for the Section A’ – Alsos Veikou – Goudi and the future extensions including the Line 3 Aghia Marina – Dimotiko Theatro, which is under construction. The contractor will also offer its assistance in the planning and evolution of the future extensions of the metro and tramway projects in the wider Attica and Piraeus regions.
The consortium will participate in every single activity including design, tendering process, construction, testing and commissioning, which are required in the framework of the technical scope of Attiko Metro’s projects under construction and new projects to verify their successful completion. Also, the consortium will provide specialised technical solutions, information, and optimisation recommendations based on the evolution of technology, support to resolve design issues, and supervision management.
The contract will be financed by the Operational Programme “Infrastructure, Transport, Environment and Sustainable Development” for 2014 – 2020 and for 2021-2027 from resources and the Public Investment Programme.
In the framework of the contract, the consortium will provide consulting services for the design, construction and commissioning related to the implementation of the construction of the EUR 1.2 billion Athens Metro Line 4 with a total length of 38.4 km and 35 stations.
The contract for the construction of 12.8 km of metro line and 15 stations between Alsos Veikou and Goudi was signed in June 2021. Recently, a EUR 580 million loan was signed for the construction of this first metro section.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, Attiko Metro is planning an ambitious extension programme for the Athens Metro including the extensions of Line 4 to Maroussi (Section B), Ano ilioupoli (Section C), Petroupoli (Section D) and National Road (Section E), the Line 2 to Ilion and Glyfada and of the new branch of Line 1 to Kallithea and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. The development of the metro system will contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion and will improve the quality of public transport in Athens.
