ČD Cargo has completed the process of obtaining a license and all other documents needed to start operations on the Austrian railway network.
Getting the license together with the decision to purchase other Vectron locomotives is a step towards expanding to other markets and getting new business cases. Last year, ČD Cargo has ordered five Vectron locomotives from Siemens, all being equipped with train control systems for these countries as well as the ETCS.
In April 2017, the Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo approved the purchase of other Vectron locomotives from Siemens. Three locomotives should be delivered in 2017 and 2018 and will be used mainly for intermodal trains, not only with containers, but also with road semi-trailers. The operator said that that the new locomotives “could be found in Braunschweig, Koper, and certainly in Austria,” explained ČD Cargo, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ivan Bednárik.
The annual volume of the transport of goods ranks ČD Cargo amongst five largest railway transport providers within the EU member states. The operator provides services to the customers in approximately thousands of locations in the Czech Republic, and by means of subsidiaries in the whole Europe. The operation of freight wagons in ČD Cargo is provided by over 900 engines – both electrical and motor operated.
The strategic goal of ČD Cargo is to maintain the leading market position of the freight railway transport in the Czech Republic and the Central European Region, and at the same time remain the efficient customer focused company.
