Canadian National will acquire 60 additional locomotives from GE Transportation, expanding the class I’s 200-unit order placed in December 2017. The new acquisition also includes a multi-year service agreement. All the CN locomotives will be produced at the GE Manufacturing Solutions facility in Fort Worth, Texas.
The order includes Tier 4 Evolution Series locomotives, equipped with GoLINC Platform, Trip Optimizer, System and Distributed Power Locontrol eXpanded Architecture to maximize train effectiveness and efficiency. They are similar to CN’s 2017 order. These solutions are part of GE Transportation’s Train Performance product suite, which optimizes power distribution, train handling, brake control and fuel utilization.
“With strong demand across our business, we continue to invest for the long haul with these locomotives that further expand the reliability and size of our fleet. With expanded infrastructure and new equipment, we are giving our industry-leading transportation team the tools they need to provide higher levels of service with greater operating efficiency,” JJ Ruest president of CN said.
In December 2017, CN announced the acquisition of 200 new locomotives from GE Transportation over the next three years. The first units are expected to be delivered in 2018 with the balance delivered in 2019 and 2020
