Serco Caledonian Sleeper rolled out its new overnight trains on all transport services between London and Scotland. Passengers can also travel between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William.
The new fleet of trains is manufactured by CAF under a GBP 150 million (EUR 170.64 million) contract.
Designed to accommodate the modern-day traveller, the new trains offer accommodation ranging from completely new comfort seats for the budget traveller to rooms with double beds and en-suites, for the first time in the history of Caledonian Sleeper.
The new trains see completely new redesigned comfort seats, Classic Rooms, Club Rooms, Caledonian Double (double bed with en-suite), Accessible Rooms, which are priced at the same level as Classic Rooms. Other new features are included on the new trains, such as a hotel-style keycard entry system, charging panels and Wi-Fi throughout the train.
The introduction of the Highlander route follows the new carriages making their debut in April on the Lowlander between London and Glasgow/Edinburgh. Passengers can also travel between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William.
“Our new trains have been years in the making and to see them complete their introduction to service is extremely exciting for everyone involved,” Ryan Flaherty, Serco’s Managing Director for Caledonian Sleeper, said.
The first CAF new coaches were put into service in April between London and Glasgow/Edinburgh.
