The Budapest Metro started to operate the first metro cars of the 81-717.2К / 714.2К series modernized by Metrovagonmash. An official ceremony for commissioning the metro cars took place in Budapest.
The contract for the overhaul of the rolling stock belonging to the Budapest Metro was concluded between Metrovagonmash and BKV in August 2015. Under the agreement, Metrovagonmash has to carry out the overhaul and modernize 222 metro cars (185 metro cars of type 81-717 / 714, 10 metro cars of type 81-717 / 714-2M and 27 metro cars of type Ev3) by the end of May 2018.
During the overhaul and modernization, the passenger compartments, driver’s cabs and the control panels have been completely renewed. The head cars’ masks and bogies have been replaced, and the carbodyshells updated. The control system, video surveillance and security systems have been upgraded as well.
After the refurbishment of the cars, the reliability of the equipment and the maintainability of the rolling stock are significantly increased, and the specific consumption of electricity is reduced. In the upgraded trains there is now an air-conditioning system in the driver’s cab and forced ventilation in the compartments. The compressor system, braking equipment and traction drive system have also been modernized.
