Botswana Railways opened Walvis Bay Dry Port in Namibia

Walvis Bay Dry PortBotswana Railways (BR) officially opened the dry port facility at the Walvis Bay Dry Port in Namibia.
According to a statement on the Botswana government website, Botswana leased a 3 6200 sqm  portion of land to establish a dry port to facilitate and fast-track import/export activities within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
BR CEO Dominic Ntwaagae said the port would be run by Sea Rail, a subsidiary of BR which is registered in Namibia and Botswana.
“The development of the dry port in Walvis Bay will, amongst other objectives, stimulate Botswana’s growing economy by creating appropriate infrastructure and processes that provide a supportive regulatory environment to encourage international trade,” he commented.
The Port of Walvis Bay is one of Africa’s most efficient and best equipped,with the capacity to handle more than 8 million tonnes of cargo. The Portis linked to Namibia’s air, rail, and road network, making it ideally placedto service landlocked countries in southern Africa, especially through thearteries of the Walvis Bay Corridor Group.
