The President of the Basque Govenrment, Iñigo Urkullu, the Minister of Economic Development and Infrastructure Arantxa Tapia, and Minister of the Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing, Iñaki Arriola, inaugurated the Line 3 of Bilbao Metro. The representatives launched the inaugural journey between Matiko and Otxarkoaga stations.
Line 3 will be operated by Euskotren and will offer connections between Etxebarri and Matiko, with a capacity of 70,000 passengers. The 5.8 km line will serve 7 stations from San Antonio, in the municipality of Etxebarri, and will enter Bilbao at Otxarkoaga station, following the districts of Txurdinaga, Zurbaranbarri, Casco Viejo, Uribarri and ending at Matiko station. The line will offer people from Bermeo, Durango and Eibar to reach the center of the city. In addition, it offers a new link with Txorierri with the rest of the network through the new tunnel of Artxanda, currently in execution.
The value of the project was EUR 279 million and has connections with the metro system and Euskotren suburban lines.
