The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line will be put into operation in October 2017, railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy reported. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, whose construction began in 2008, is a corridor that will connect the Azerbaijan, Georgian and Turkish railways. The railway, which is an important part of the Modern Silk Road, is aimed to improve economic relations between the three countries and gain foreign direct investment by connecting Europe and Asia.
The peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At the initial stage, this figure will be 1 million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
