The Bangladesh Government plans to build another metro line in Dhaka, that will connect Gabtoli and Vatara districts. The feasibility study carried out by Nippon KOEI, with technical support of JICA, dentifies the east-west corridor as an important Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line to connect it with four other MRTs.
According to the study, the line will have a 35 km length and 10 stations with a depot on 24 hectares of land in Bashundhara. The project could be implemented in two phases,
If the entire line is elevated, the estimated cost is Tk 138.49 billion (aprox. USD 1.8 billion), but the cost would increase to Tk 155.33 billion (EUR 2 billion) if constructed with mixed option (elevated and underground).
