This May, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy will complete the works for Astana’s railway station called “Nurly Jol” that will be put into commercial services for the “EXPO-2017” international exhibition. The official opening of the exhibition will take place on June 9. Until June 1st all necessary tests of railway infrastructure of the railway station will be carried out, including engineering communications and an intelligent system for controlling the movement of trains, as well as passenger services.
The first passengers will start arriving and departing from the station “Nurly Zhol” from June 1 this year.
The project involved the development of the railway junction of Astana and the construction of a railway station complex. The capacity of the new station will be up to 35,000 passengers per day, which will significantly relieve the load from the existing station of Astana with a capacity of 12,000 passengers per day.
A team of international experts such as Buro Happold (Great Britain), Tabanlioglu Architects (Turkey), Jamas (Germany) adopted the design solutions that allowed the station to be located on concourse, above the railway tracks.
In the building of the station, with an area of more than 120 thousand square meters, all conditions for the passengers’ mobility with reduced physical capabilities are created, and provided tactile paths, an information board with the use of the Braille alphabet, special cash desks.
In addition to the main waiting room there are hotel rooms, convenient storage rooms, mother and child rooms, medical offices, food courts, restaurants, indoor and outdoor parking for more than 1500 seats and much more, meeting the best world standards.
The building is equipped with energy-saving elevators and escalators, ground heat exchangers are installed, which pre-heat the air coming from the street in the winter, cools the air in the summer. There is a multi-zone air conditioning system that distributes cold and heat from one external unit to several internal ones. As a result of its application, significant energy savings are achieved.
The system of rainwater harvesting and reuse has been organized for the cleaning of facades and irrigation of adjacent territories.
The opening of the new station will provide more than 1,300 people with new jobs.
