Design and consultancy company Arcadis has been assigned by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. to adapt the Polish railway infrastructure against possible consequences of climate change. Arcadis will provide PKP PLK with a plan for adaptation of railway infrastructure to climate change. The plan will be developed based on expert opinions, analysis of existing problems and analysis of needs, all of which will indicate actions aiming to mitigate the impact of climate change on railway infrastructure and to avoid any obstructions in its functioning.
“Climate change is a quickly evolving phenomenon, which has become a top priority for the central government, local governments and public sector in Poland. Its impact on the business and on our lives will grow every year, therefore it is crucial to act already today. We are pleased that our experts can support such prestigious client as PKP PLK S.A. in the effort of preparing key elements of railway infrastructure for negative effects of climate change, such as torrential rains, flooding, landslides, heat waves, hurricanes and droughts,” Krzysztof Kutek, Water Team Leader at Arcadis in Poland and Project Manager, said.
