Trenitalia has received another Vivalto double-deck train manufactured by Hitachi Rail Italy, that will enter regional transport services in Lombardy. This is the fourteenth Vivalto train that the operator has received since October.
49 such trains will run the Lombardy railway network, guaranteeing the necessary conditions to ensure a high level of quality of regional transport service adapted to the needs of the people who choose the train every day in Lombardy region.
The first tranche of 14 trains will follow, as from the next few months, the delivery of another 35 trains, which will be progressively made available to Trenord. The first 20 trains will be delivered between June and December 2019. Another 10 last generation trains, five Rock and five Pop trains will arrive in Lombardy starting from July 2019 and, finally, a further 5 Pop in the first months of 2020.
Last year, Hitachi Rail Italy has presented the first Rock double deck five-car train for Trenitalia, under a contract EUR 3 billion signed in 2016 for the supply of up to 300 high capacity EMUs in 4, 5 or 6-car formations for regional transport.
Also last year, Alstom has been awarded four contracts totalling around EUR 330 million by Trenitalia for the supply of 54 Coradia Stream regional trains, called “Pop” trains.
FS Italiane is investing EUR 4.5 billion for new passenger trains, and, under the plans, within 2023, the company will renew 75 percent of Trenitalia’s regional fleet and halve the average age of trains from the present 20.3 years to 10.6 in 2024.
