Andalusia to invest EUR 313 million in infrastructure projects in 2017

granada-metro_metro-granada-575x323Andalusia, the south-western  Spanish autonomous province, announced its intention to invest in transport and infrastructure projects.
The Minister of Development and Housing of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Felipe López, presented in the Andalusian Parliament the budgets of his department for 2017, which foresee a global investment of EUR 832.58 million. Of these, EUR 313.7 million will be allocated to actions in the areas of infrastructure, transport and mobility, an investment that represents an increase of 10 percent over the previous year. The railway infrastructures – metros, trams and railways – will receive a total of EUR 156.6 million.

In this sense, the planned actions are part of the Infrastructure Plan for the Sustainability of Transport in Andalusia, which foresees an investment of EUR 1,3 billion until 2020.

The Andalusian Government will allocate a total item of EUR 156.66 million to the metropolitan, tramway and railway projects. Thus, EUR 15.7 million will be allocated to the Alcalá de Guadaíra tramway and to its connection to the Seville Metro. The Málaga Metro, for its part, will receive EUR 83.1 million, of which EUR 15.1 million will be dedicated to the execution of the outstanding sections between Perchel-Guadalmedina, Guadalmedina and Atarazanas, as well as the extension to the Civil Hospital, and the EUR 68 million remaining to commercial exploitation.

The planned investment in the Metro de Granada will amount to EUR 26.56 million, of which EUR 22.17 will be used to pay back the loans received and the rest EUR 4.39 million are to be put into operation, while the tram-train of the Bay of Cadiz will receive EUR 25.2 million in 2017, of which EUR 18.7 million will correspond to investment and the rest will be destined to cover the technical tariff when it enters service next spring.

Finally, regarding the heavy rail transport, the works restarted on the Vadollano – Linares branch will continue and they will receive EUR 5.1 million financing.
