As a promoter of sustainable mobility, Alstom was selected, for the sixth consecutive year, in Dow Jones Sustainability indices (DJSI) which recognizes its leading position in the field of sustainability. With an overall score of 78 out of 100 in the DJSI ranking, two points more than in the previous year, Alstom was one of the top performing companies among the 3,400 companies invited to participate to the assessment.
Alstom develops and markets systems, equipment and services for the railway sector and manages the widest range of solutions in the market – from high-speed trains to metros and tramways, customised services and infrastructure and signalling solutions. The company has recorded sales of EUR 6.9 billion and booked EUR 10.6 billion orders in the 2015/16 fiscal year.
In September, at InnoTrans, Alstom received the “Supplier of the year 2016” award from Deutsche Bahn (DB) in the rolling stock category. DB presented the award in recognition of the successful on-time delivery of 38 regional trains Coradia Lint for the Dieselnetz Southwest concession in Germany in December 2015.
The next generation of the TGV
Alstom and SNCF have inaugurated the shared workspace for the creation of the next generation of the TGV. The SNCF-Alstom innovation partnership will design and produce the new TGV with planned entry into commercial service in 2022.
The first phase of the partnership involves the elaboration of a joint definition and specification of the new TGV, until the end of 2017. Within the two next phases, the companies will realise the detailed design, industrialisation and approval, for a duration of approximately 4 years and will launch the production and delivery of the train. The commercial service is scheduled for mid-2022.
The ambitions for the new-generation TGV are high:
• Reduce acquisition and operating costs by at least 20%,
• Optimise the environmental footprint, with a material recyclability rate of over 90% and a reduction in energy consumption of at least 25%,
• Develop the commercial offer to improve passenger experience: a 20% increase in and/or capacity enabling more onboard services for more passengers.
A zero-emission train
During InnoTrans, Alstom unveiled Coradia iLint a new CO2-emission-free regional train and alternative to diesel power. It is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, its only emission being steam and condensed water while operating with a low level of noise. Alstom is among the first railway manufacturers in the world to develop a passenger train based on such a technology.
This launch follows the Letters-of-Intent signed in 2014 with the German Landers of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, and the Public Transportation Authorities of Hesse for the use of a new generation of emission-free train equipped with fuel cell drive.
Coradia iLint is based on the service-proven diesel train Coradia Lint 54. It will be manufactured in Salzgitter, Alstom’s largest site.
