Adif and Bane NOR, the Norwegian railway infrastructure manager, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the next two years for mutual exchange of experience which will include a range of aspects, from infrastructure projects and ERTMS deployment to infrastructure management in extreme weather conditions.
“We are very pleased that we now have a formal agreement on cooperation and exchange of experience. In some areas we can learn a lot from Adif, such as ERTMS, where the country has the largest network in Europe. In addition, there are also topics such as tunnel drilling where Bane NOR has invaluable knowledge and can assist Adif to improve its infrastructure,” Gane Frimannslund, CEO of Bane NOR, said.
Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate on training personnel, consulting services and mutual technical and technological assistance. The MoU’s final objective envisages the transfer of services and products offered to the clients based on quality improvements as a result of the cooperation.
As Bane NOR is in ERTMS deployment phase, the company is interested in Adif’s experience and the Spanish railway infrastructure is one of European pioneers on this segment. Adif says that it is ready to provide Bane NOR technical advice to contribute to the improvement of Norway’s railway infrastructure. Other areas which Adif will also collaborate includes the operation management of the railway infrastructure in extreme weather conditions, tunnel construction systems, environmental commitments, the liberalisation of the railway sector.
Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly organise workshops, will perform study visits and technical assistance.
“This agreement makes it easier to put experts together from both companies in different fields. In other words, this is a win-win situation. We share common goals and challenges in our day-to-day operations, and to meet customer expectations, it is advisable for infrastructure owners to share experiences,” said Alvaro Mascaraque Sillero, Director of Communication at Adif.
