The European Commission has launched a EUR 1.4 billion CEF call for transport projects focusing on the construction of the missing links and on sustainable transport modes.
The deadline for application submitting is February 2020, with a virtual information day taking place on November 7.
The call for proposals supports seven priorities of the CEF Transport multi-annual work programme for 2014-2020 under the General and Cohesion envelopes. The Cohesion envelope is reserved for the 15 EU Member States that are eligible for Cohesion Fund support.
EUR 650 million will be provided under the Cohesion envelope, of which EUR 610 million for projects on the Core Network Corridors which includes railways, inland waterways, roads, maritime and inland ports. EUR 40 million is allotted for road infrastructure projects.
The general envelope has a total value of EUR 750 million. For all transport modes on Core Network Corridors, a EUR 500 million investment is available. The CEF call includes EUR 50 million for ERTMS deployment. EUR 110 million is distributed to the actions and projects for transport infrastructure in nodes of the Core Network, including urban nodes and passengers multimodality. The remaining CEF support, totaling EUR 90 million, will be provided for road ITS, SESAR, and MoS.
“To accelerate decarbonisation and contribute to the completion of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), we are making full use of the resources available through the Connecting Europe Facility. These investments will support smart and sustainable mobility and better connect our citizens across Europe,” Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc said.
The CEF programme has a grant budget of EUR 23.4 billion for the transport sector, of which EUR 11.3 billion is reserved for projects in Member States eligible for the Cohesion Fund.
Since 2014, 763 projects have been supported with around EUR 22.05 billion in EU funding.
