PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe and the BFF – Idom consortium signed a EUR 4.9 million (PLN 21.3 million) contract for the documentation development of a railway connection from Silesia to the Baltic ports.
The contract involves the modernisation of the rail link between Węglówka in Kujawy and Śląska in Silesia to the Baltic ports.
In total, the modernisation works will cover 132 km of railway connections of which 112 km on the Węglówka railway line situated on the No.131 mainline, between Dąb nad Nerem (Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland) and Złotniki Kujawskie (in north-central Poland) and 20 km representing the adjacent railway sections. Under the project, 12 stations will be reconstructed, including their platforms, which will be adapted to the passengers with reduced mobility.
Initially, the documentation and the expected works will be performed for the modernisation of 114 objects, including 15 viaducts, 17 bridges and 3 underpasses. The new rail traffic control system will provide efficient train movement and a new local control center in Inowrocław will be constructed and equipped with modern systems and equipment.
After works’ completion, the passenger trains will be able to run at speeds of 160 and 200 km/h. The freight transport services will become faster, as the trains will run at speeds of 120 km/h, efficiently connecting the southern industrial districts to ports at the Baltic Sea. This is important as the section of route No. 131 is part of the C-E 65 main line, which belongs to the Baltic – Adriatic Corridor. The track will also be suitable for heavier trains, with an EU-standard axle load up to 221 kN, and capable of carrying freight trains up to 750 m in length.
Under the contract, the contractor will prepare a concept to rebuild the Jaksice and Złotniki Kujawskie stations for passenger train speeds of up to 200 km/h. Another concept will also be created for the separation of passenger and freight traffic on the Inowrocław – Nowa Wieś Wielka section and the construction of two additional tracks on the Jaksice – Złotniki Kujawskie section. The third concept will concern the reconstruction of the Inowrocław junction to separate passenger and freight traffic and enable passenger trains to travel on the Toruń – Inowrocław – Bydgoszcz route without having to change the direction.
It is expected that the documentation will be completed by the end of 2021 and the implementation of the project will take place between 2022 and 2026.
