EffiShunter 1000 locomotive became the first locomotive manufactured by CZ Loko that is equipped with ETCS, as no manufacturer in the Czech Republic has managed to install it.
The locomotive will be operated by ČD Cargo, which received the first of five ordered vehicles on October 1st in Břeclav. The remaining four vehicles will be delivered by the end of the year.
EffiShunter 1000 are the first locomotives equipped with ETCS already in production. Up to now, they have only been produced with so-called preparation. Over the next few years, ETCS will become a prerequisite for the operation of all trains on the main lines not only in the Czech Republic, but throughout the European Union.
The four-axle EffiShunter 1000 locomotives has a drive unit consisting of a CAT C32 diesel engine with an output of 895 kW. The power transfer is electric AC/AC, transferred to four individually controlled asynchronous traction motors. It features on-line diagnostics and monitoring as standard. ETCS is optional. By meeting the demanding TSI standards, it can be operated practically all over Europe.
“Without a top-class product, nobody would be interested in us. It was a costly strategic decision, because the development of the locomotive itself, including ETCS installation, is not cheap. However, it bears fruit in the form of the interest of many other rail carriers in Europe and beyond,” Josef Bárta, Chairman of the Board of CZ Loko, said.
CZ Loko has delivered 27 EffiShunter 1000 locomotives in Europe. 5 locomotives will be delivered in the Czech Republic, to ČD Cargo, other 5 units operate in Slovenia, of which 4 vehicles are operated by the state-owned SŽ-Tovorni promet, and ine by Luka Koper/ in Italy, the Czech manufacturer concluded contracts for 17 EffiShunter 1000 locomotives, of which, 10 are for Mercitalia, 3 to Dinazzano, 2 for Ferrovie Nord Milano (operating in Lombardy and Piedmont) and 2 other locomotives to Rail Traction Company, operating on Verona railway network.
