The Visegrad countries have recently agreed to speed up the construction of the high-speed railway connection between the capitals. They developed a common approach for speeds of up to 300 km/h.
The new line would link Budapest to Warsaw, via Bratislava and Ostrava, providing high-speed railway link between the four Visegrád countries – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
For this project, the four countries have signed a joint declaration, highlighting the importance of the high-speed railway line between the countries. According to the decisions, the new double-track line would serve the cities with a stop at each capital’s railway station. The estimations show that the travel time from Poland to Hungary would be for 3 hours, from 12-17 hours.
In October 2018, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, as part of Visegrád Group countries (V4), jointly decided to establish Budapest-Bratislava-Brno-Warsaw high-speed railway link.
In March 2019, the EIB announced that the European Investment Advisory Hub (EIAH) is working on the development of the Visegrad Advisory and Investment Platform, designed to attract investment in V4 countries for capital projects including the high-speed rail link between the V4 capitals.
