Half-billion dollars invested on RZD’s Azov-Black Sea rail network

Russian Railways spent, last year, USD 587 million (RUB 38.5 billion) on rail modernisation and development in Azov-Black Sea Basin. RZD is carrying out a comprehensive reconstruction of the Maxim Gorky-Kotelnikovo-Tikhoretskaya-Krymskaya stretch with a detour of the Krasnodar hub and of the Trubnaya-Verkhniy Baskunchak-Aksaraiskaya section and reinforcing the power supply devices.
At the end of 2018, the company laid 260 km of second and more than 40 km of station tracks, 56 km of the route was modernised, 240 new switches were mounted and 350 km of tracks electrified. In addition, more than 80 km of second main tracks were commissioned, including on the Abganerovo – Gniloaksayskaya, Gashun – Zimovniky, Razvilnaya – Peschanokopskaya and Manych – Shablievskaya lines, as well as over 24 km of station tracks. Working traffic began at the Krasnodar railway bypass.
About 900 km have been laid for various purposes within the framework of the project, which began in 2007, with a total investment of USD 2.3 billion (RUB 150 billion).
