Works on the Prague’s two new stations started

Czech Railway Infrastructure Authority (RIA) officially launched the construction of civil structures for the new Prague-Zahradní Město and the Praha-Eden stations. The total project has a value of CZK 4.4 billion (EUR 172 million) of which EU’s contribution is CZK 3 billion (EUR 117 million).
Metrostav, Swietelsky Rail CZ and SMP CZ are the project’s contractors and Sudop Praha is responsible for civil engineer part of the project. The project is estimated to be completed in 2021.
The stations will be constructed in 10th Prague district (Vršovice). Under the project, four-rail track will be built in the area of the former marshalling yard in Vršovice.
The two stations will become major hubs where passengers will change for public transport. The platforms in Zahradní Město will lie directly above the extended underpass in street Průběžná where tram stops will be situated. The station in Vršovice will undergo a major transformation. A modern platform at a standard height of 550 mm above the rails will significantly improve passenger experience and provide barrier-free access to trains. The residents of Nusle will benefit from the extension of the existing underpass underneath the entire rail area of the station towards street Bartoškova. Access from the platforms to the space in front of the station will be an innovation.
“The railway plays an important role in metropolitan transportation. This project follows up the modernisation of the Prague-Hostivař station and work is also under way on another section of the fourth corridor between Sudoměřice by Tábor and Votice. It will only take a few years and we can go to the south on a continuous, modernised section from Planá nad Lužnicí in the Tábor region to the Vršovice station in Prague,” Transport Minister Dan Ťok said.
The project called “Optimisation of Track Section Prague Hostivař – Praha main railway station Part II – Prague Hostivař – Praha main railways station” is co-funded by the EU from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme.
