Russian company Slavneft-Yanos and UWC signed a contract for the supply of 32 high-capacity tank cars for molten sulfur and sulfuric acid transport. The delivery is scheduled before the end of January 2019.
UWC will supply two types of tank cars. The 15-6913 tank car model will be used for transport of molten sulfur and has a volume of 44 m3 and a load capacity of 72 tons, enabling carriage of an extra 9 tonnes of cargo in comparison with analogues.
The 15-9545 tank car model has the same capacity, but and increased load capacity – 77 tonnes, enabling carriage of an extra 8 tonnes of cargo in comparison with analogues.
Both models have bogies with increased axle load of 25 tf, which significantly reduces life-cycle costs, mainly through longer intervals between scheduled maintenance. UWC’s tank cars have maximum run of 800,000 km (8 years of operation) before their first depot maintenance, compared with 250,000 km (2 years) for standard molten sulfur cars and 210,000 km (2 years) for standard sulfuric acid cars.
The new contract will raise the number of new generation UWC tank cars in the fleet of Slavneft-YANOS to 39. The companies have been partners since 2017, when UWC made a first delivery of tank cars to the oil company for transport of molten sulfur.
