Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Ltd. awarded Hyundai Rotem a Won 177.1 billion (USD 159 million) contract for the supply of metro cars. They will be able to run at speeds of 80 km/h and will be equipped with four surveillance cameras per car, fire detectors, CCTV and LCD passenger information screens and will have a capacity of 782 passengers.
The delivery is scheduled starting April 2019 until July 2020. The new metro cars will operate the East-West line which is about 20.5 km with 17 stations.
For this tender, Alstom, Bombardier, Hyundai Rotem and CRRC Corporation were the four companies who have bid to supply 96 metro cars for Ahmedabad.
The total length of Ahmedabad metro is 37.7 km and of which 6 km will be underground and the rest, will be elevated. The project includes two corridors, on East-West and North-South directions. North-South line will have 17.2 km and 15 stations, and the length of East-West line is about 20.5 km with 17 stations.
