The construction of the first section of Tampere tramway, on the Hervanta–Pyynikintori–TAYS section, is under way in all five segments. “Currently, the work is 12% complete and 18% of the project time has been used,” explains Ville-Mikael Tuominen, Project Director of the tramway project.
Works are performed within the city centre, Kaleva, Hervannan valtaväylä, Hervanta and at the property of the future depot. “The first year of construction has gone fully according to plan, both for the degree of completion, costs and working hours,” said Mikko Nyhä, Project Manager, Tramway Alliance, which is implementing the project.
The track has already been installed on several streets and in addition, there are rails and slab tracks on other roads. During the first year of the tramway construction, a large amount of cables and pipelines were moved from underneath the future track. Also, within the contract, Tramway Alliance is building a total of 8 new tramway bridges and modifying 8 existing bridges to accommodate the tramway system.
The targeted cost for phase 1 of the tramway approved by Tampere City Council was EUR 219 million. The project content has been specified during the implementation stage, and the targeted cost is now EUR 219.5 million.
Tramway Alliance formed by the City of Tampere, YIT Construction Services, VR Track Oy and Pöyry Finland Oy, are in charge of designing and constructing the tramline infrastructure and the depot area.
