EUR 400 million for Plovdiv-Burgas line

The Bulgarian government said it intends to invest just over BGN 800 million (EUR 409 million) for the rehabilitation of the railway line connecting the country’s second largest city Plovdiv to the city of Burgas, on the Black Sea coast.
Around BGN 500 million (EUR 255.6 million) of the total sum is expected to come from EU funds under the Operational Programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure, although the European Commission has not yet issued a final approval of the project, the Bulgarian government added.
The aim of the project is to improve the security of the railway and increase the possible speed to 160 km/h, which will reduce the time it takes for passenger trains to cover the distance between the two cities by 40 minutes.
