The Norwegian Railway Directorate asked Norske tog AS, the newly created rolling stock company, to launch the tender on the acquisition or leasing of double-deck electrical multiple units.
A formal announcement will be soon available with all needed details, including the deadline for bids submitting. A high standard of the rolling stock and shorter delivery time will be the most relevant criteria of the tender.
This is Norway’s first double-deck train order and its goal is to increase the capacity on Østfold line, in south of Oslo, from Oslo to Ski and Vestby stations.
Earlier this year it was published a request for information (RFI) and, according to the directorate, the suppliers’ response was favorable. “The request issued this spring resulted in more interested suppliers. Now, we will launch the tender and wait for the offers,” Dagfinn Berge, Director of Passenger Services in the Directorate said.
