Ukraine resumes talks with Germany over rail plans

The Ukrainian and German authorities discussed the prospects of updating the rolling stock of Ukrzaliznytsia with the support of German partners, as well as the possibility of including Ukraine in the Trans-European transport network. These issues were discussed during the meeting between Volodymyr Omelyan, the minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, and Rainer Bomba, the state secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany, which took place in Berlin on 12 October.
Volodymyr Omelyan emphasized that Ukraine cannot be on the sidelines of the pan-European and trans-European transport logistics, and has good prospects to be become a part of the corridor for the delivery of goods from the EU countries to the countries of Asia and the East.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the possibility of using German experience in the development of digital infrastructure in Ukraine, use of cloud technologies and electronic services in the transport sector.
Enhancing cooperation in the railway sector was also a key issue during the meeting of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine with the management of Deutsche Bahn. Volodymyr Omelyan expressed optimism about the resumption of bilateral dialogue, which was interrupted two years ago, and also expressed the hope that both Ukrzaliznytsia and Deutsche Bahn would find an effective model of cooperation. “One of the vectors is joint development of cargo transportation routes,” the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine said.
