Prague launches tram projects worth more than EUR 80 million

Prague Municipal Council approved a significant plan to extend the tram network in the Czech Republic’s capital city, with up to 30 new lines and extensions of the existing ones. The aim of this strategy is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels used on buses and cars.

The approved plan will be implemented in three stages. Thus, the first three projects, for which planning is at the most advanced stage, will begin in the next five years. These projects comprise three extensions of the tram lines, Divoká Šárka – Dědina being the first extension of 2.4 kilometers length and a cost of CZK 893 million (EUR 35 million).
The Sídliště Barrandov – Slivenec extension, with a length of 1.9 kilometers and a cost of CZK 691 million (EUR 27 million), and the third extension on the Modřany – Libuš route  of 2.1 kilometers length and estimated at a cost of CZK 500 million (EUR 19.3 million).

By 2030, 16 other new tram line projects will be carried out, the longest, of 6.1 kilometers, being the Choceradská -Jižní Město line, via Chodovec, Opatov and Háje districts.

The last stage of the urban rail network extension strategy in Prague includes 11 projects, for which the municipality intends to obtain the necessary approvals by 2030.
Currently, the tram network in Prague has a total length of 142 kilometers and transports over 360 million passengers annually.
