The construction of the railway bridge across the Lena River on the Baikal Amur Main Line is planned for completion by the end of 2017. The new bridge will ensure the simultaneous unhindered passage of trains along two parallel tracks on this section. The bridge will increase the carrying capacity of the Lena-Severobaikalsk section and thus meet the demand of the dynamically growing freight volumes along the Baikal-Amur Mainline and on the entire Far Eastern rail system.
The total length of the bridge is 417 m. Its construction type will allow the structure to be operated under the difficult natural and climatic conditions of Russia’s high latitudes. In accordance with the project’s main technical solutions, the new bridge will have 4 span structures with lengths varying from 45 metres to 132 metres.
The construction began two years ago and is part of a large-scale investment project to modernise Russia’s railway system in the Far Eastern part of the country. The Baikal Amur Main Line crosses 11 major rivers and has more than 2,200 large, medium and small bridges.
