During the Railway PRO Investment Summit, organised by Club Feroviar and Railway PRO, with the support of the Romanian Railway Industry Association (AIF), on 3 – 4 October, in Bucharest, Marin Aldea, General Manager Metrorex (Bucharest Metro), announced that “the company carries out a series of investment projects. One of these projects is the extension of Metro Line 4 on Parc Bazilescu – Straulesti section, where works are underway for the development of the connection gallery and the Park & Ride multimodal terminal that will be completed in December 2017 and in the first quarter of 2018, respectively. These two projects are 90% completed”.
We remind that in March, Metrorex commissioned two metro stations on the same line – Laminorului and Straulesti.
For the extension of Line 4, Gara de Nord – Gara Progresu section, the company has recently signed the contract on the elaboration of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies with Metroul SA – Amberg Engineering AG joint-venture. The new line section will provide a connection between the two rail stations in Bucharest, being also linked to the other existing metro lines.
As regards the project of Line 5, section Drumul Taberei – Eroilor, the structural frame of the line, including Valea Ialomitei is 92.5% completed. “In March, the two TBMs which excavated the tunnels in both directions were removed. At the end of next year, we want to launch services on this line section”, said Marin Aldea.
Part of Line 5 project, for Eroilor (PS Opera) – Universitate – Iancului section, the estimated deadline for the completion of works is 2019 – 2023 and this is currently in the elaboration phase with the support of PASSA experts, as well as the documents for the attribution of design services.
The line will have a 4.8km length with 6 stations and the cost of the project is EUR 547 million VAT excluded. The section will be one of the most important high capacity transport connections that will increase the density of the metro network in the central area and will ensure a direct connection between section 1 (serving Drumul Taberei District) and section 3 of Line 5 (serving Pantelimon district).
Another project presented by the General manager of Metrorex was that of Line 6 that would provide connection to Henri Coanda International Airport. The cost of the project is estimated at over EUR 1 billion and consists of the construction of a 14.2-km railway with 12 stations. Works could be launched at the end of 2017 and completed in 48 months.
We remind that in July, the Romanian Government approved the initiation of the expropriation procedures of the private buildings located on the route of the line. This phase is very important before launching constructions works.
