Romanian National Rail Infrastructure Manager, CFR SA, launched, on September 29, the open tender for the modernisation of Apața-Cața section, part of Braşov – Sighişoara rail section. The total estimated cost of the contract is EUR 623,24 million, the financing source being ensured by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), 81.74%, and state budget co-financing, 18.26%.
Bids could be submitted by 15 November 2017.
The modernisation of Apaţa – Caţa section contributes to reaching the main objective of promoting sustainable mobility on the Hungarian Border – Curtici – Arad – Simeria – Sighișoara – Brașov section, by increasing traffic speed to 160 km/h, reducing transport time, increasing rail safety, improved access for people with reduced mobility, introducing modern signalling and traffic management systems, improving the comfort of passengers in rail stations.
The modernisation project on this section includes a wide range of railway works such as infrastructure, superstructure, bridges, culverts, viaducts, tunnels, electrification and energy supply, rail telecommunications (including GSM-R), rail signalling (interlocking and ETCS Level 2) and civil engineering in stations.
„We’re inviting specialised companies to submit their bids with the specification that the development of such a large project requires serious, long-term implication and a professional approach that, in the end, will be beneficial for the development of rail transport and local economy”, declared Marius Chiper, General Manager CFR SA.
