Three companies interested in India’s Bhopal and Indore metro rail contracts

Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting, Aegis India and AYESA have been shortlisted by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Co. Ltd (MPMRCL) for general consulting contracts for the Bhopal and Indore metro rail systems, according to sources. The winner of the contract will be selected by the end of September.
The Madhya Pradesh cabinet approved the detailed project reports of the Bhopal and Indore metro projects in December 2016 at a cost of Rs 144.8 bn (EUR 1.8 billion). According to the decision, while MPMRCL would bear 60% of the project cost, the union and the state governments will share 20% each for the projects. MPMRCL was set up after the Madhya Pradesh government approved its constitution in February 2015.
Two metro corridors of 27.9 km would be laid in Bhopal. There would be one corridor of 31.5 km from Rajwada to Nainod in Indore. The work on metro projects in both the cities will start in the next financial year.
