Two cities in Turkey will have new tramlines

The Turkish Ministry of Transport announced that it will build two tram lines in the cities of Erzincan and Erzurum. Thus, they will be added to the list of tramway cities in Turkey, cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Bursa, Eskisehir, Kayseri, Gaziantep, Konya, Samsun, Adana, Antalya and Sakarya. Thus, Erzincan Province, located in northeastern Turkey and Erzurum, the largest city of this province, will benefit from urban rail transport. Moreover, the new tram lines will also make it easier to connect with regional transport network.

On the other hand, Trabzon, a port city on the Turkish Black Sea coast and waiting for 70 years to be connected to the Turkish rail transport system, now faces delays in the construction of the light rail transport system.

Authorities say the feasibility study for the light rail line is still underway, allocating in the 2017 budget the sum of TRY 252 million (USD 73 million). It must be completed by the end of the year.
In Turkey, the length of the light rail network is 500 kilometers and the number of light rail vehicles is 1,800 and continues to grow.

We remind that in April 2017, Turkey announced three alternative routes for connecting Trabzon to the national rail network, but none has yet been established.
